Bear with us..

Hey everyone,

You may have noticed that we're doing a bit of rearranging at the moment; September is filling up with other exciting band things so we've moved the London show back a month to October 30th. Bear with us and we'll have a finalised calendar for the next couple of months up in the next couple of days..

We’re off to Universal’s Studios..

Hey everyone,

Very good news on the InLight front! As those of you who came to the show, or at least who get our mailing list update know, we played a showcase for North Cotswolds Community Radio last month. The upshot of this is that we've been chosen by Simon Gavin, who is head of A&M Records, to record a couple of tracks at Universal's Studios in London. This was announced by Robb Eden on air on Saturday July 19th. Robb also played our songs 'Icarus', 'Bridges' and 'Why Oh Why'. We'll keep you updated; more details to follow!

Also, the new Postcards EP has started to sell. Here are some photos of a few of the hand-drawn records, every single one being different (although the music stays the same!):

EPs on sale/Arcane almost sold out..
Hey there,

Well, we've had people e-mailing us wanting to buy the new record. Who said that physical record sales were dead because of the internet!? Anyway, you can now buy both the new 'Postcards EP' (tracklisting: Icarus, Space, Dido & Aenaes [live]) which features unique drawn-by-the-band cover artwork, and the fire EP (tracklisting Fragile, Give Me A Try, Bridges) for £3/$6 each (plus P&P) or get both for £5/$10. If you choose the 'Buy CDs' option on this website it should all be there!

We've also had a word from the promoter that tickets for the Arcane Festival, which we are headlining, are now close to selling out. If you wanted to come, make sure you buy some from the event's website or get in contact with us ASAP!

Postcards from Oxford
Hello everybody,

For those of you who hadn't noticed we have got some new songs online, in the form of the Postcards EP. Tracklisting is 'Icarus', 'Space' and the live version of 'Dido & Aenaes'). You can download it for free now from MySpace and this website or buy a physical copy with authentic handmade-by-InLight sleeves from this Monday (7th July). Each one will be different and signed by whichever one of us made it!

To coincide, we have a shiny new website, which you are looking at now, clearly...

In other news, we've been busy on the live front too. Thanks to everyone who came to the NCCR showcase on the 21st and thanks as ever to Mark, our tech/lighting designer/driver/roadie/general genius who is rapidly becoming one of the InLight family.

We also played to the 1000-odd students at one of our local Oxford schools to celebrate their becoming a specialist music school. Playing on a balcony in a rotunda, like something from Gladiator is something we won't forget in a hurry!

I'm off to buy sunglasses,

Dido & Aenaes live recording now online..
Hey there,

We've had a lot of people, who were either at SPACE or who have seen it on YouTube, asking for the live recording of Dido & Aenaes from the showcase, so we've  put it up on MySpace to stream and download.

See you Saturday!

New Butterfly Tattoo trailer..

Hey there,

A second teaser trailer is now up on the main site for 'The Butterfly Tattoo' and features the intro to 'Bridges' in the first half. Still no release date though.

It's been a quiet week for the band, although the new songs are still stacking up. This coming  Saturday (21st) we're playing the showcase mentioned in the blog below, and then on Monday (23rd) are heading back to the studio to mix what we recorded a couple of weeks ago.

See you there!

We’ve been recording/Unsigned Showcase coming up..

Hey everyone,

A couple of things: we've were recording yesterday and are going back in a couple of weeks to mix the tracks; 'Icarus' and 'Space' were the two we laid down. They should be done by the end of this month. Watch this space!

Secondly, we're playing an Unsigned Band Showcase on June 21st. Here is the blurb:

Saturday June 21st (doors 5pm) will see a Midsummer's night Unsigned Music Showcase hosted by Steve Sutherland (former Editor of the New Musical Express) who will chair a panel of experts including Blur bassist Alex James, Universal Music's A&R chief Simon Gavin, producer and musician Stephen Lipson (The Rolling Stones, Whitney Houston, Daniel Bedingfield, Paul McCartney) and MD of Carlsbro Electronics, Andrew Bishop....the cream of local unsigned bands and songwriters will take to the stage to perform short sets and receive the pundits' comments. Among those slated to appear onstage are hotly tipped rockers Souljacker, Kamikaze Union, Oxfordshire-based rock quartet Inlight (who are already attracting major record label interest) and melodic duet No Fixed Abode. One further act is still to be confirmed. Tickets are only £5 in advance or £7.50 on the door.

Advance tickets can be purchased by sending a cheque, made payable to North Cotswold Community Radio, to PO Box 100, Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire, GL56 0ZX. Any problems just e-mail the band and we'll sort it for you!

See you there.

Thank you for SPACE

Well, we sold the show out and that was just the start! Thank you to everyone who traipsed through the wind and rain and, sitting and standing, packed every corner of the theatre last night. We have never had such a good audience and such a good time. Thank you. To everyone who asked me afterwards, the show was filmed and recorded, so watch out for YouTube action in the next week or so. Also, we had a photographer there, but if anyone took any photos (I think they did judging by the flashes) then could you please send them to us, we'd love to see them.

In other news, InLight ice cream is all sold out!

See you soon!

SPACE pre-sale tickets SOLD OUT, a few tickets left on door...

Hey there,

All the pre-sale tickets for SPACE have now sold and the box office has closed. We have held back a few to be sold on the door tomorrow, though. If you want to reserve some of these, please e-mail us on contact@inlightband.com or message us on here and we'll arrange them to be put aside for you. Otherwise, it's down to luck!

If you've bought tickets from the box office but haven't had them sent to you, rest assured they'll be on the door under your name tomorrow when you arrive.

See you tomorrow!

InLight Delight ice cream in all Oxford G&Ds shops..

Hey everyone,

All three G&Ds ice cream shops in Oxford are, as from today, carrying their newest flavour: InLight Delight. It's a limited run white chocolate ice cream with chocolate flavoured cookie dough thrown into the mix. Mike and I ate a whole carton of it yesterday because we're greedy like that and it's delicious.

Also, only three days left until SPACE! There are still a few tickets left so if you haven't got yours yet make sure you do it in advance rather than risking buying on the door. If we sell out we'll post a notice on here to avoid anyone wasting time going down on the night; it's looking likely that this will be the case.

See you on Sunday!

BAFTA - Butterfly Tattoo advanced screening..

Hey there,

Well, we went down to London on Friday and up to 195 Piccadilly with no real preconceptions except that we were pleased to be asked, and had a sense, having seen the teaser trailer, that it would be pretty good. We weren't disappointed. The film is fantastic: well acted, sharply edited and with clever twists and turns which are always enough to fool me and which had my heart beating at at least double its normal rate by the finale. Phillip Pullman, who attended the screening, must be pretty pleased. It was such a great moment for us when the opening bars of 'Bridges' came in for the finale and during the credits.

We also had a good chat with Phil Hawkins the director about what comes next, but I think Fridays's screening was the start of the adventure for him as well, with all sorts of distribution decisions to be made. SO, no dates to report as yet, but we'll keep you posted!

Wadstock preview in the Cherwell..

Hey there,

There's a preview of Wadstock in this week's Cherwell which we thought we'd share with you:

"Sitting fourth on the bill are four-piece Inlight, perfectly placed on the sunset slot with their beautiful, soaring, accomplished melodies, sure to stretch the sonic capabilities of the speaker system. Expect kissing couples and swaying hands to be washed over by lead singer Charlie Cooke’s powerful towering vocals for one final calm, chilled moment of the day."

May 6th support slot for The Envy Corps..

Hey everyone,

A strange thing happened today. I was checking our MySpace mail when a banner popped up advertising The Envy Corps, America's hotly tipped band du jour. So I clicked on it instinctively, as I do all brighly coloured flashing signs, had a listen and made a coffee. Ten minutes later I had got off the phone with the promoter, the band having been asked to support them in Oxford on May 6th. The show is at the Jericho Tavern on Tuesday May 6th. Tickets can be bought here.

See you there!

Announcing SPACE...

Hey everyone,

Well, we can finally announce SPACE! On May 25th we are putting on a big show at the Keble O'Reilly Theatre in Oxford. We've had so much interest from various quarters since Christmas so we wanted to showcase all of our songs and ideas in one place so that all those who have been interested in us could come along. While a number of tickets are reserved for press etc. there will be over one hundred seats available for general admission. Tickets are just £7 (£6 if you're a student or under 18) and are available to buy from the box office at the Oxford Playhouse, by telephone (01865 305305) or online by clicking here. Naturally these are limited so pre-ordering is the name of the game. It is highly unlikely that there will be any available on the door. Please be patient with the booking website, as it's pretty busy.

Sunday May 25th is a bank holiday so this should make it easier for anyone travelling for the show. For latest up-to-date information please check out the SPACE mini-site.

N.B. to Press/A&R: for guestlisting please contact Robb Eden on showcase@inlightband.com

Butterfly Tattoo update..

Hey,

Today we heard from Phil Hawkins, who is the director of The Butterfly Tattoo. The film has now finished post-production and release dates for both the trailer and the full movie will be available soon, so watch this space. We're really excited about this project and we can't wait to see it. He had this to say about InLight's contribution to the movie:

"'Bridges' is in a very key scene of the film and its one of the few tracks on the soundtrack that is featured in full in the film. 'Bridges' was one of the first tracks I heard last year when the film was in pre-production. As soon as I heard it I knew it would be included, before I had even shot a single frame of the movie. It's both heartbreaking and emotional yet uplifting and positive... I never thought I'd be able to find a track that can portray the emotion I wanted, but I found it in 'Bridges'. The Butterfly Tattoo features a soundtrack of new unsigned talent coming out of Oxford and InLight is definitely a band that'll be big in the future... I hope the film is a successful platform to aid their success."

Love Music/Hate Racism show

Hey,

LoveMusic/HateRacismWe’re playing a show for Love Music/Hate Racism on Friday April 11th. It’s at the Exeter Hall in Oxford and we’ll be supporting ’Shirley’. We’ve played with them before at The Cellar and they’re a really good band with a bit of a 60s Liverpool vibe and some Simon & Garfunkel and Beach Boys thrown in. It looks like it should be a good evening. It’s £4 on the door, or £3 if you’re a student, and our set time will be at 9.30pm. Here is a map with the venue marked out on it.

Review from last night...

Hey everyone,

Thanks for coming down to the Hope & Anchor last night. It was a good show to bed in and debut the new line up. We just thought we’d share with you the review from the promoter’s website: amongst other things, we were described as: "wonderfully melodic, with a strong sense of purpose, powerful yet laid back, heavy yet mellow, purposeful yet meandering...A very sophisticated act that are generating some interest from the industry. Classy."

H&A flyer to download..
Hey everyone,

If you click here you can download and print off a flyer which will get you a whole 50p off of the entrance price to our show at the Hope & Anchor. All you need to do is present it at the door and you will have your 50p knocked off there and then. This will reduce the price from £5 to £4.50. And then, you will be rich.

Hope & Anchor, Tuesday March 25th
Hey everyone,

InLight back. Moving fast. We are headlining the Hope & Anchor on Tuesday March 25th. This is the rescheduled headline show that was postponed early this year. If you come down you'll have the added bonus of seeing our new bassist, Johnny* and, for no extra price, Mike's new collection of t-shirts. Tickets will be £5 on the door, or £4.50 if you have an InLight flyer. We'll post them so you can download them and print them off in the next couple of days. We're very excited to be getting back on track. We're also excited to hear from the production company when the new trailer for 'The Butterfly Tattoo' is out. Obviously we'll post it here as soon as it's been released.

Make sure you come down to the H&A and bring all your friends. Well, maybe not ALL your friends, but a large proportion of them certainly. If you have some friends in far-flung parts of the globe then it may be slightly impractical to force them into a London venue on a Tuesday night, I accept.

There are details on MySpace, Facebook etc. but there's no harm re-iterating them here. The Hope & Anchor is at 207 Upper Street, Islington, London, N1. The first band will be on at around 8.30pm and the doors will close at 11/11.15pm. If you can only make it to see InLight, then you'll want to be there by 10.15pm as our headline slot starts at 10.30pm at the latest.

Back from the hiatus, Hello/Goodbye, Pete and the artist formerly known as Johnny
Hey everyone,

You may have noticed that all has been quiet on the western front since we made the announcement about the film in January. This is because Peter Sarkies, our longstanding bassist, decided early in the new year that he wanted to leave the band in order to pursue other things. We were very sad to see him go, and wish him all the best. Thank you Pete for two years of great music and good times.

Excitingly, though, it's also hello to Johnny. After much searching, auditioning and general wringing of hands, we have a wonderful new bassist who joined InLight yesterday. Hi s name is Johnny and we're really excited to have him on board. It was one of those moments when we all instantly clicked, both personally and musically.

This is where it gets a little complex. Back when we added a new drummer, Pete was still playing bass with us. The new drummer was also called Pete so we started calling him Johnny to differentiate between them.  Now, to mix things up a little, we have a new bassist called Johnny. To differentiate we've started calling Johnny by his real name; which is Pete. So the artist formerly known as Johnny is now Pete ,and the bassist formerly known as Pete is now Johnny. In simple terms: goodbye to Johnny, hello to Johnny, goodbye to Pete, hello to Pete. We were Charlie, Mike, Pete and Johnny. Now we are Charlie, Mike, Johnny and Pete.

There are so many things to do now and our final hiatus is over. Sorry for the wait, but thank you all for sticking with us. Here's to the future!

InLight featured in upcoming Philip Pullman film..
Hey everyone,

There is much excitment here in the InLight camp. We have just finished inking our names on a contract and, as a result, two of our songs - 'Bridges' and 'Fragile' - will be used in the upcoming Philip Pullman film 'The Butterfly Tattoo', which is scheduled for release later this year. 'Bridges' will also be used in the trailer. This is a pretty exciting step forward for us and a great way to start the new year. Once the post-production is finished we'll be sure to get hold of a copy of the trailer and put it on our MySpace and our website. For the moment, there is a teaser trailer for the movie (we're not on this one) below.

Again, sorry about the shows being postponed. We'll let you know as soon as they are rescheduled. In the meantime, please enjoy the new website and don't forget to tell everyone about the band and point them in the direction of our myspace, our website and our Facebook group.

Upcoming shows postponed...
Hey everyone,

There is lots of movement in InLightland this early new year, and a very exciting announcent will be made in a couple of days. Unfortunately the flip side of all this is that the two upcoming shows - at the Purple Turtle and the Hope & Anchor - are postponed. We'll let you know the new dates as soon as we do.

Hope you all had a good new year and we can't wait to tell everyone what's on the cards..

Last show of 2007 tonight
Hey everyone,

Tonight we're playing our last show of this year, supporting The Version at Thirst Lodge in Oxford. We'll be on at around 8pm, so make sure you're there by then. We will be playing two new songs - 'Why Oh Why' and 'Disappear'. I know most of the Oxford contingent has now gone back home as I've had e-mails telling me so. If you're around, however, Thirst Lodge is on the quaintly titled Penny Farthing Lane and entry will be £4. For a map go to the venue's website and then click contact.

Download our EP - 'fire' - for free..
Hello everyone,

If you haven't been doing anything this weekend except for frantically clicking on InLight's MySpace and various web spaces then you might have noticed that our MySpace player has changed a little bit. For those of you doing other things with your time, I'll tell you now.

First off you can now download the 'fire EP' (which features 'Fragile', 'Give Me A Try' and 'Bridges') to your computer/iPod/phone for free. Please play the songs to everyone, and get everyone else you know to download them.

Secondly, the demos of 'Submarine' and 'I See A Little Clearer' which we made a while ago are now up by popular demand and I've added a rough sketch demo of 'Why Oh Why' which I made a few months back. This is now a full band song and is in the set ready for upcoming shows. It sounds much more full with all of us playing and features some lovely rich and warm guitar playing from Mike, but you'll get the idea from the demo!

Hope you enjoy the songs and have a good Sunday night.

The amazing disappearing act..

We have a new song which we learned last night. It's called 'Disappear' and it's nearly ready. It's unmistakably us with sprinklings of both Frederick Chopin and that new fangled modern disco sound (not a couple normally seen out at the movies together) for good measure. So think if Studio 54 moved to Versailles and booked us for the night.

The shows are coming in; check the schedule for more details.

Late nights, Great nights

Me & Johnny were at the Basement Club's 5th birthday party in the Buffalo Bar last night. Met loads of cool people and saw some fantastic bands; Ed Harcourt in particular was stunning. Got home around 3am. Awake now, honest...

In other news, our gig at the Jericho Tavern is sadly cancelled. On the plus side our Purple Turtle show is still on and still free, so there's no excuses.

See you all there!

H&A review

There's quite a nice review of our show at the H&A on this site in which we are described as 'very classy', our songs are labelled as 'intelligent' and 'sophisticated' with 'Fragile' as 'a hit in the making, blending a dark deep experience with something strangely catchy'.

Details of the free show at the Purple Turtle on November 9th are now up, and we'll get the same for the Jericho Tavern gig on November 6th as soon as they are sent to us.

Last night...she said..

Thanks to everyone who came down to see us at the Hope & Anchor last night. It was a really good evening and such a good crowd. I was so thrilled to see some people turn up that I hadn't seen for ages. Apparently they had heard about the show on 'the grapevine' so we must be doing something right. Maybe they'd been talking to Marvin Gaye. It was also great to get back into playing after the hiatus. Johnny had an awesome time and it felt like he'd always been in the band.

There's something very charming about the Hope & Anchor, especially the mad rush to move things out of the leaking store room when it rains. Speaking of which, unloading our stuff back in Oxford in the monsoon was something I won't forget in a hurry. I now know what 'soaked to the bone' means.

Our next show is on November 6th at the Purple Turtle in Oxford.

Now we are a band again, I guess we'd better book some shows..

In transition...
Hey everyone,

Things have been pretty quiet on here recently, but we've been quietly busy. Thanks for all the messages etc. during the downtime.

Some changes are afoot for InLight. First of all we should announce that Calum and InLight have decided to go their separate ways, so a new drummer is being sought. Thanks to Calum for the last year and a half, it's been awesome. For the Hope & Anchor show on October 16th we'll be playing with John Colgan from the band 'November', who has kindly agreed to fill in, and we should be announcing a permanent new drummer soon after that.

There are a number of new songs in the pipeline as well, so once everything is sorted, look out for them at an upcoming show.

Thanks for sticking with us through the transition and we look forward to getting stuck back into things once we're out the other side.

Bye bye Fopp/New songs...

So...Fopp went out of business. Which means our record is DEFINITELY not on sale there. In other more positive news we are convening in a rehearsal studio in late July to learn 'Spotlights' and 'Disappear' and reattack 'Why Oh Why' and 'Psychedelic'. I'm also half way through a song called 'Sleepwalking' which Mike and I like very much and which has an (unsurprising) American influence. Expect to see these songs on a record soon, and hopefully one which can put another major chain out of business.

Enjoy the rain,

Evenin' all

Just a quick update - the EP is now available in Fopp, Oxford and online, and plans are afoot for plenty of shows in the summer. In other news, we have a great mention in the Cherwell newspaper this week in which InLight's Wadstock performance is described as "predictably ravishing". Full article is here.

Gotta run, enjoy the rain!

Wadstock!

What a night! Playing as the sun went down, under such an empathetic light show and to such a brilliant, brilliant crowd is something I won't forget in a hurry. Thank you to everyone who came down and to all the bands which took part. To look out from the stage and see all the lights scanning across so many faces - superb. If anyone has any photos or video I'd love to see them, just drop me an e-mail.

EPs are selling like hot cakes (do they actually sell particularly quicky? I've never seen any evidence of this) so get your order in as this is a limited edition run.

'fire' release delayed until Friday, May 4th

Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, the EP release has been put back to this coming Friday. Apologies to anyone waiting on it and to all those who have pre-ordered it. We're pretty annoyed too! Obviously it will be sent out the moment the clock strikes 12.01am on Friday morning and will be available in Fopp from that day onwards. To everyone who has asked about Wadstock tickets, I am waiting on an answer from the organisers and it'll hopefully be here more promptly than the EPs...
